The Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) program is the only nationally recognized credential that certifies mobile technology installation technicians and sales people on automotive information technology, entertainment, navigation, safety and security systems. MECP is owned and operated by the Certification Systems Technology Company (CTSC)™.
There are three levels of installation technician certification — Apprentice, Skilled, and Expert — each based on a technician’s knowledge about the complex systems of a vehicle and elements of the job, their completion of the learning content, and a successful passing score on a certification examination.
There is also a certification specific to sales professionals called the Product Technology Specialist certification.
Each certification level has a online learning content that must be read and/or watched. The individual’s progress through the different subjects is measured by their ability to answer questions as they review the content. Once all subjects have been reviewed and all preparation questions have been answered, a certification exam will be unlocked. The individual must pass with a cumulative 80% score on that exam to achieve certification.
Certain sections of any of the certification level learning content will generate certificates of completion after the individual has reviewed the content and scored a 100% on the preparation questions, which can be useful for technicians who focus on only certain types of installations.
