Why is Certification Important?

Your employees and contractors who work for you represent your company, and the standards they are held to for sales, system building, vehicle disassembly and reassembly, installation, and safety measures are equally applicable.

You might have a technician who has been in the industry for a long time, a salesperson new to the category, or someone who plays a hybrid sales and technician role with a few years of experience in both. They may have some education or experience with certain applications. But can you, they, or your company, prove it?

When a customer or client contacts you for a solution, they are looking for a professional interaction and transaction. They may have even found you via the MECP Technician & Specialist Finder. If they ask for professional credentials or a history of experience, what will you respond with? Are you going to say you’ve been doing this for years and that’s not important? Do you have experience or knowledge because you’ve done a similar type of installation before? Great! Prove it. Anyone can verify MECP credentials, unless they have them personally turned off for public display, on our Verification Tool.

Active certifications in your store can demonstrate to your customers and clients that your company and employees or contractors are dedicated to ongoing education, have been educated on proper and safe techniques and standards, and are committed to a level of professionalism that your competitors may not. Having one or more certifications would be a competitive advantage. Or, maybe your competitors do have MECP certifications. Shouldn’t you at least be comparable to them?

How to Get Started

You should determine whether certification at one or more levels is required or merely recommended, and whether the company or the individual is responsible for the cost. Deciding this may dictate how you implement MECP certification within your business.

If MECP certification is optional, it may lead to your employees not taking it seriously or merely achieving the minimum requirements to claim certification. However, it may also provide a way to incentivize them to achieve higher pay or bonuses, or to allow them to take on bigger roles within the company if they do achieve one or more certifications. In certification-optional scenarios, the individual typically pays for it themselves, and in some cases, the company may reimburse them for the course cost. You can determine what works best for your company and employee structure.

If MECP certification is required, it can provide a more consistent and reliable workforce for your company and also inspire them to achieve more. In these cases, most companies purchase Coupon Codes for the employees and issue them one for their course(s). These codes do not expire until they are used, so you can purchase them to have ready for future employees or staff changes. If the company purchases the Coupon Code, it owns the certification. Controlling the certification is helpful if you experience turnover in a competitive market, as you can request to deactivate the certification for an employee who has left.

Additionally, one or more staff members can be designated as a Company Admin in their MECP Profile. This role provides access to discounted MECP Coupon Codes and Company Benefits, as well as tools that enable viewing of linked employees’ certification status with real-time telemetry. Additionally, it allows access to certificates and the management of renewals or upgrades on their behalf.

MECP Program Supporter Logos

MECP Supporter LogoThe Certification Systems Technology Company (CSTC) has developed specific logos to associate an MECP certified professional, the program itself, and any associated company. These Guidelines have been established to ensure consistency in the manner the Marks are used and protect the Marks’ integrity while promoting your MECP achievements or support. These Guidelines are equally applicable for print or posted content on the Internet, including social media platforms. All Marks’ use requires advance written approval from CSTC, initiated by filling out the Logo and Marks Approval Request form.

If you want to use the Supporter/Promotional Marks to inform, educate, and promote the MECP program’s benefits to the public, the same approval is required. Use of the Supporter Marks without a licensing agreement is strictly prohibited, including any social media platform or anywhere on the Internet. The Supporter Marks may never appear on a product or imply that the licensee’s employees are MECP certified.

Licensing is not guaranteed by completing a Logo and Marks Approval Request form. Only an approval returned as approved by CSTC is valid.
