This Privacy Policy covers our data collection practices and describes your rights to access, correct, or restrict our use of your personal data.

When This Privacy Policy Applies

This Privacy Policy applies to websites and applications (“Services”) offered by CTSC including CTSC.TECH, CERTIFICATIONSYSTEMS.TECH, MECP.COM, MECP.ORG, MECP or CTSC-branded apps, CTSC attended or sponsored events whether in-person, remote, or online, and general industry events but excludes services that have separate privacy policies that do not incorporate this Privacy Policy or to information that we collect by other means (including offline) or from other sources.

By using the Services, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. You should not use the Services if you don’t agree with this Privacy Policy or any other agreement that governs your use of the Services.

What Data We Collect

We collect certain data from you directly, like information you enter yourself, data about your participation in our services, and data from third-party platforms you connect with CTSC. The information collected includes (but is not limited to) your name, job title, employer name, address, email address, phone number, credit card or account information, photos, and information about your interests in and use of various products.

How We Get Data About You

When users come to our Site, we may track, collect, and aggregate information indicating, among other things, which pages of our Site were visited, the order in which they were visited, when they were visited, and which hyperlinks were clicked.

We use tools like cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to gather the data listed above. Some of these tools offer you the ability to opt out of data collection.

Cookies and Data Collection Tools

We use cookies, which are small text files stored by your browser, to collect, store, and share data about your activities across websites, including on CTSC. They allow us to remember things about your visits to CTSC, like your preferred language, and to make the site easier to use.

CTSC and service providers acting on our behalf (like Google Analytics and third-party advertisers) use server log files and automated data collection tools like cookies, tags, scripts, customized links, device or browser fingerprints, and web beacons (together, “Data Collection Tools”) when you access and use the Services. These Data Collection Tools automatically track and collect certain System Data and Usage Data when you use the Services. In some cases, we tie data gathered through those Data Collection Tools to other data that we collect as described in this Privacy Policy.

Why We Use Data Collection Tools

CTSC uses the following types of Data Collection Tools for the purposes described:

  • Strictly Necessary: These Data Collection Tools enable you to access the site, provide basic functionality (like logging in or enrolling in courses), secure the site, protect against fraudulent logins, and detect and prevent abuse or unauthorized use of your account. These are required for the Services to work properly, so if you disable them, parts of the site will break or be unavailable.
  • Functional: These Data Collection Tools remember data about your browser and your preferences, provide additional site functionality, customize content to be more relevant to you, and remember settings affecting the appearance and behavior of the Services (like your preferred language or volume level for video playback).
  • Performance: These Data Collection Tools help measure and improve the Services by providing usage and performance data, visit counts, traffic sources, or where an application was downloaded from. These tools can help us test different versions of CTSC to see which features or content users prefer and determine which email messages are opened.
  • Advertising: These Data Collection Tools are used to deliver relevant ads (on the site and/or other sites) based on things we know about you like your Usage and System Data (as detailed in Section 1), and things that the ad service providers know about you based on their tracking data. The ads can be based on your recent activity or activity over time and across other sites and services. To help deliver tailored advertising, we may provide these service providers with a hashed, anonymized version of your email address (in a non-human-readable form) and content that you share publicly on the Services.
  • Social Media: These Data Collection Tools enable social media functionality, like sharing content with friends and networks. These cookies may track a user or device across other sites and build a profile of user interests for targeted advertising purposes.

What We Use Your Data For

  • Provide and administer the Services, including to facilitate course participation, issue course completion certificates, display customized content, and facilitate communication with other users;
  • Process your requests and orders for courses, products, specific services, information, or features;
  • Communicate with you about your account by:
    • Responding to your questions and concerns;
    • Sending you administrative messages and information, including messages from instructors, students, and teaching assistants; notifications about changes to our Service; and updates to our agreements;
    • Sending you information, such as by email or text messages, about your progress in courses, rewards programs, new services, new features, promotions, newsletters, and other available courses (which you can opt out of at any time);
    • Sending push notifications to your wireless device to provide updates and other relevant messages (which you can manage from the “options” or “settings” page of the mobile app);
  • Manage your account and account preferences;
  • Facilitate the Services’ technical functioning, including troubleshooting and resolving issues, securing the Services, and preventing fraud and abuse;
  • Solicit feedback from users;
  • Market and administer surveys and promotions administered or sponsored by CTSC;
  • Learn more about you by linking your data with additional data through third-party data providers and/or analyzing the data with the help of analytics service providers;
  • Identify unique users across devices;
  • Tailor advertisements across devices;
  • Improve our Services and develop new products, services, and features;
  • Analyze trends and traffic, track purchases, and track usage data;
  • Advertise the Services on third-party websites and applications;
  • As required or permitted by law; or
  • As we, in our sole discretion, otherwise determine to be necessary to ensure the safety or integrity of our users, employees, third parties, the public, or our Services.

 

Who We Share Your Data With?

We share certain data about you with instructors, other students, companies performing services for us, CTSC affiliates, our business partners, analytics and data enrichment providers, your social media providers, companies helping us run promotions and surveys, and advertising companies who help us promote our Services. We may also share your data as needed for security, legal compliance, or as part of a corporate restructuring. Lastly, we can share data in other ways if it is aggregated or de-identified or if we get your consent.

From time to time, CTSC receives personal information about individuals from authorized third parties and sources other than through a CTSC Service, such as our partners. This may happen, for example, if:

  • Your employer registers or signs-up for an MECP or CTSC event, app, or Service.
  • You choose to participate in an MECP- or CTSC-branded Service, subscription
  • You participate in an event which is attended by, co-sponsored or co-hosted by MECP or CTSC.
  • Instead of registering directly on our website, you choose to register with a third-party login or credential service (commonly known as Single Sign-on) which authorizes that third-party to share information that includes (but is not limited to) your name, your profile picture, your company name, your email address, and your account ID number and other identification information.

If you give us information about another person, you confirm that the other person has appointed you to act on their behalf and agreed that you may consent to the processing of their personal data. 

We use the information we collect in a variety of ways in providing and improving the Services and the operation of our business. We process your personal information for account administration, to deliver the products and services you require, and to inform you of CTSC-related events, products, content, initiatives and other benefits or opportunities associated with CTSC and the industry. We may also use this information to help understand your needs and interests to better tailor our products and services to meet your needs. We will use your information to respond to your questions. If we get personal information from a source outside of CTSC Services, we will treat the personal information in accordance with this Policy.

When Do We Disclose Your Data to Third Parties?

We do not share your personal information with others except as indicated within this Policy or when we inform you. We do not sell personal information to anyone and only share your personal data with third parties for their use in authorized and necessary instances:

You authorize the sharing of your data by registering to an event or conference where we share data with event co-sponsors. In these instances, you will be asked to review specific and additional terms and conditions as part of the registration process.

We may disclose your data to third parties if we (in our sole discretion) have a good faith belief that the disclosure is:

    • Permitted or required by law;
    • Requested as part of a judicial, governmental, or legal inquiry, order, or proceeding;
    • Reasonably necessary as part of a valid subpoena, warrant, or other legally-valid request;
    • Reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and other legal agreements;
    • Required to detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, misuse, potential violations of law (or rule or regulation), or security or technical issues; or
    • Reasonably necessary in our discretion to protect against imminent harm to the rights, property, or safety of CTSC, our users, employees, members of the public, or our Services.
    • We may also disclose data about you to our auditors and legal advisors in order to assess our disclosure obligations and rights under this Privacy Policy.
    • During a Change in Control: If CTSC undergoes a business transaction like a merger, acquisition, corporate divestiture, or dissolution (including bankruptcy), or a sale of all or some of its assets, we may share, disclose, or transfer all of your data to the successor organization during such transition or in contemplation of a transition (including during due diligence).
    • After Aggregation/De-identification: we may disclose, or use aggregated or de-identified data for any purpose.
    • With Your Permission: with your consent, we may share data to third parties outside the scope of this Privacy Policy.

Legal Basis

As stated above, we collect different types of information from or through our Services. The legal bases for processing of personal data are primarily to enable us to provide our services to you.

Legitimate Business Interests: To provide you with information relating to our Services. To notify you about any changes to our website, such as improvements or service changes, that may affect our Services. If you are an existing member or customer, we may contact you with information about services similar to those provided to you by us in the past.

Performance of Contract: To meet our contractual commitments to you and in performance of contractual obligations to you.

User Consent: We may use your data so that you can be provided with information about services that may be of interest to you. We will follow applicable laws and regulations regarding consent to receive this information.

Your Choices and Control

Under privacy laws, data subjects have certain rights. This Privacy Policy is intended to give transparency about what personal data CTSC collects and how it is used, enabling you to make meaningful choices.

Please contact us by using the details set out at the Contact Us section below if you wish to do any of the following:

  • Confirm that CTSC is processing your personal data, or to have access to the personal data CTSC may have about you. Reasonable access to your personal data will be provided at no cost upon request.
  • Correct any personal data that CTSC has that is inaccurate.
  • Request that CTSC erase your personal data or stop processing it. Please note that in some cases, we may not be able to remove your personal information, in which case we will let you know if we are unable to do so and why. In addition, removal or deletion of personal data may forfeit, suspend, or remove any subscription(s) access, access to Services, apps, software, or website, or may prevent you from future access to these Services.

We provide many choices in relation to our marketing communications via an unsubscribe option on every marketing email. If you opt-out of marketing emails, we may still send you transactional and administrative emails about the Services you use.
CTSC retains personal data for the duration of the customer’s or member’s business relationship with CTSC and up to five years after the relationship ends. Subsequently, the data is stored for archival uses only.

CTSC’s headquarters, and the majority of CTSC Services are located and operated in the United States but may be serviced or operated outside the United States. If you are using the Services from outside the US, please be aware that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States unless otherwise stated. By using our Services and providing us with information, you consent to this transfer, processing, and storage of your information in the United States and in any remote servicing or storage procedures or methods that are used. It is important to note that data privacy laws vary worldwide, and some may not be as comprehensive as others. When personal data is transferred to or from us, we will adequately protect it as described in this Privacy Policy.

Security

We are committed to protecting the security of your personal information. We have implemented appropriate physical, technical and administrative safeguards. We train our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of your information. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. We cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. If you believe your Personal Data has been compromised, please contact us. In the event that personal information is compromised, we will promptly notify our customers in compliance with applicable law.

Sensitive Data

We request that you do not send us any sensitive data such as social security or national identification numbers, information related to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health data, biometrics or genetic, criminal background or trade union membership information. If you do send us this information, then you are consenting to its processing in accordance with this Privacy Policy.  To avoid processing of sensitive data, do not submit it.

Children’s Privacy

We recognize the privacy interests of children and encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s online activities and interests. Individuals younger than 18 years of age, but of the required age for consent to use online services where they live (for example, 13 in the US or 16 in Ireland), may not set up an account, but may have a parent or guardian open an account and help them enroll in appropriate courses. Individuals younger than the required age for consent to use online services may not use the Services. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under those ages, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Updates & Contact Info

When we make a material change to this policy, we will notify users via email, in-product notice, or another mechanism required by law. Changes become effective the day they are posted. Please contact us via email or postal mail with any questions, concerns, or disputes.

Modifications to This Privacy Policy

From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy. If we make any material change to it, we will notify you via email, through a notification posted on the Services, or as required by applicable law. We will also include a summary of the key changes. Unless stated otherwise, modifications will become effective on the day they are posted.

As permitted by applicable law, if you continue to use the Services after the effective date of any change, then your access and/or use will be deemed an acceptance of (and agreement to follow and be bound by) the revised Privacy Policy. The revised Privacy Policy supersedes all previous Privacy Policies.

Interpretation

Any capitalized terms not defined in this policy are defined as specified in CTSC’s Terms of Use. Any version of this Privacy Policy in a language other than English is provided for convenience. If there is any conflict with a non-English version, you agree that the English language version will control.
