How long have you been in the industry?
9 years as a professional, competed in various forms as a hobby about 4 before that. In my career I have worked for 2 shops, and currently work for the place where I started out.
How many years have you been MECP certified? How long have you been Master certified?
Just over 2 years from Basic to Master. Have been Master for a whole month. Getting to Master was something I have wanted for a long time. I had the opportunity with Creative to go for it and see how I measured up. I'm very proud to have reached my goal and respect each and every other Master who is out there. I'm happy to call them my brothers.
What is the year, make and model of the most difficult car you've ever worked on?
2006 Freightliner semi for the Missouri Highway Patrol Bomb Squad. Had to put a basic alarm keyless on the truck, with magnetic switches at each door and a second siren in side in the back. Ever had to work on a bomb proof vehicle? It's a little difficult to run wires and it didn't fit in the bay.
Give us a rundown of the system installed in your vehicle right now.
Actually there is nothing but stock in my car to busy at work to deal with mine. Most of the ideas I have for my car end up in customers' cars before it is said and done with.
Name the top five artists in your MP3 player at the moment.
I like a wide variety of music. Right now its Godsmack, Shinedown, Phil Collins, Nelly, and Kid Rock. Music and a love for cars is what got me into car audio.
What is your favorite tool to use in the installation bay and why?
Honestly, its my mind. Sounds a bit egotistical but if you keep a good head on your shoulders when your day maybe isn't going so well it will get you out of a hard spot. After training several installers over the years, I see how over whelming some things that we are asked to perform can be. Using your training and knowledge will never let you down and lets you work better and faster than the next guy.
What is the best advice you have ever gotten in your installation career?
Early in my career I had the pleasure to work with a great manager and installer who showed me how to never stop learning and to always keep your eyes open. He never sat down and gave great words of wisdom or anything just watching him day-to-day taught me so much.
Who inspires you to further your skills and your career in mobile electronics installation? All the guys pushing our industry...Some do fab, some do wiring. I want to learn from anybody and every body. Even seeing someone's mistake is a learning process.
