How long have you been in the industry?
Just like many other installers out there I have been around cars and mobile electronics since before I had my license, but I have been "in the industry" for about 8-9 years now.
How many years have you been MECP certified? How long have you been Master certified?
I have been certified for about 7-8 years, I achieved my Master certification about a year and a half ago.
What is the year, make and model of the most difficult car you've ever worked on?
I don't have a particular car that sticks out in my mind as being the most difficult, but I recently installed a remote starts in a 2007 Harley Davidson Electra Glide and a 2006 Honda 600rr. Neither were a "hard" install, but I had to use the service manuals to figure out which wires needed to be connected to and where they were. It was a challenge but they both came out perfect!
Give us a rundown of the system installed in your vehicle right now.
As with any installer's car, it is always a work-in-progress. :) I have a 2007 Honda Accord sedan. I have so far installed sound damping throughout the vehicle, a pioneer AVIC-Z2, Pioneer D-Series components and 6x9s, Kinetik battery, big 3 upgrade. I have yet to make the amp racks and sub enclosures. It is tough to find the time to work on your own vehicle.
Name the top five artists in your MP3 player at the moment.
Top 5 would be Kenny Chesney, Usher, Eminem, Brad Paisley, Trace Adkins
What is your favorite tool to use in the installation bay and why?
My favorite tool is my cotter pin extractor. I have used it to do a thousand different tasks, none of which were extracting a cotter pin!
What’s the best advice you have ever gotten in your installation career?
Honestly, it is so simple, but the best advice I have ever gotten was, "Look twice, drill once." Why take a gamble and drill blind? Also, sometimes you think you are drilling in the right spot, but when you look a second time, you realize you are not. So simple, but so very important.
Who inspires you to further your skills and your career in mobile electronics installation? I have a bunch of friends that are also installers. We challenge and teach each other all the time. Thanks to Colin, Jesse, Timmy, Gerald and Esteban for helping me become the installer I am today!
